Guaranteed Scholarships
You may have heard the term guaranteed scholarships, but not really know what it entails. Sometimes, it can be awarded by a particular organization and they will send those funds directly to the institution where you attend. They are considered to be guaranteed due to the fact that the student has verification that they will get the funds.
There isn’t any type of process left that they have to go through in order to get the funds. This isn’t the type of scholarship where you have to do an interview or submit a lengthy essay. Any time that you see guaranteed scholarships offered, you should jump on them. They are among the easiest of all scholarships out there that you can benefit from.
Plus, there isn’t a limit to the number of these guaranteed college scholarships that you can get. With that in mind, it is in your best interest to apply for all of that that you would possibly be eligible for. That way you will increase the chances that you get awarded at least one of them.
Being a member of certain organizations can certainly help you with funds for college. If you have been involved with 4-H, National Honor Society, or even Boy Scouts of America then you could be eligible for guaranteed scholarships for college.
With most of these types of scholarships they are renewable for a period of 4 years. There are certain restrictions that can apply though. You will need to carefully read all of the guidelines of the scholarship. For example, some of them will only be renewed if you stay enrolled full time. If you drop to part time status they can cancel it or at least adjust the amount. Most of these guaranteed scholarships do require to remain in good standing with the college for a renewal. This is in terms of both academically and behaviorally.

Alice Lloyd Guaranteed Tuition ScholarshipsAlice Lloyd College has recently become known for offering guaranteed tuition scholarships. In fact, the college was ranked by US News and World Report as being among the best colleges in the United States for graduating students with the least amount of debt. Located in Kentucky, this college offers guaranteed tuition scholarships to any student who is a resident of a 108-county Central Appalachian service district area. Students at the college work between 10 and 20 hours per week in order to pay their way. The college offers a number of degree fields as well as pre-professional programs.
Through a minority grant, Alice Lloyd College also offers a room and board guarantee for minority students who are from the 108 county Central Appalachian service area. The grant is awarded for a total of 10 semesters as long as students continue to make reasonable progress toward completing a degree. The room and board guarantee is funded through a variety of federal, state and institutional grants as well as earnings from participating in the Student Work Program at Alice Lloyd College.
Income is not a consideration when determining eligibility for the Appalachian Leaders College Scholarship. Provided that students reside in one of the eligible 108 counties in the service area, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, 17 ACT composite score and are otherwise eligible for admission, they will receive the tuition guarantee. Students who receive this scholarship will have the cost of their education met by a combination of scholarships, grants and participation in the Student Work Program. Alice Lloyd College is named for Alice Spender Geddes Lloyd, who founded the college. Originally from Boston, Lloyd traveled to Eastern Kentucky in 1916. Prior to her arrival in Kentucky, she had served as publisher and editor of The Cambridge Press. At the time, the publication was the only such newspaper in the country with an entirely female staff. Following her arrival in the state, she became convinced that the people of Appalachia could have a better future through education. After an invitation from a local resident, she arrived in Pippa Passes prepared to teach the local children. In order to ensure that no student would be turned away from an educational opportunity for lack of financial resources, she immediately set about founding a mandatory student work program.
She also worked to secure financial support through her friends in the East, as well as through voluntary teachers. In 1923, Mrs. Lloyd founded Caney Junior College. She went on to serve the college until her death in 1962. Since that time, the college has become an accredited four-year, liberal arts college and has witnessed significant expansion in terms of facilities and programs. Over the years, hundreds of students have attained baccalaureate degrees through the college and many have gone on to complete professional programs and graduate programs at very little or no personal cost. Numerous former students have since returned to Appalachia as physicians, teachers, attorneys and community leaders.
Since the college’s founding, work has remained a central part of the experience at Alice Lloyd College. Today, students here continue to work in order to provide needed services and pay for their education. Along with serving as an earning experience, the student work program at Alice Lloyd College is also a learning experience, specifically designed to teach students self-discipline, responsible leaderships and self-reliance. In addition, it enhances the complete educational program. Each full-time student is required to work a minimum of 160 hours per semester at an on-campus or off-campus job in exchange for their Alice Lloyd College guaranteed tuition scholarships. Jobs are varied and may include normal operations for on-campus jobs and needed community services for off-campus jobs. Each job also pays the prevailing minimum wage rate.

The overall goal of the guaranteed scholarship at CUNY Teacher Academy is to challenge and inspire student teachers to make a difference in their own lives as well as the lives of others by pursuing a career in education. At the same time, it is hoped that teachers graduating from CUNY will help the next generation of students discover the power of mathematics and the wonder of science.
The Teacher Academy at CUNY blends an academic program built upon rigorous standards with early participation for hands-on experience in the classroom. From their very first semester at CUNY Teacher Academy, students receive the opportunity to observe how outstanding teachers are able to connect with their students, while also motivating them to learn. Graduates major in either science or math with a minor in high school or middle school education. By learning in a college within a college-style environment, student teachers receive small class placement, special advisement and benefit from a highly supportive community of faculty and fellow students. Early fieldwork participation forms the cornerstone of the teacher education program at CUNY Teacher academy. Beginning in a student’s freshman year they begin observing classrooms in a local school setting. That experience culminates in their senior year with student teaching. The ultimate goal is to have student teachers spend approximately 1,000 hours in a school or learning environment prior to graduation and becoming certified to teach in New York City public schools.
The CUNY Teacher Academy program is considered to be highly selective and is located on a total of nine different campuses; The City College, Brooklyn College, Lehman College, College of Staten Island, Borough of Manhattan Community College, Queens College, Hunter College and Hostos Community College.
The full-tuition scholarship at CUNY Teacher Academy came about as a result of a significant shortage of qualified science and mathematics teachers. Consequently, a competition for such educators arose around the country. New York City made the decision to strengthen their recruitment efforts as a direct result of the need for hundreds of well-qualified science and mathematics teachers to fill routine vacancies that were created through attrition, leaves of absence, sabbaticals and retirements. In order to attract new teachers as well as retain existing teachers, the full-tuition scholarship and guaranteed job plan was created.
Prospective CUNY Teacher Academy graduates interested in pursuing a career as a math teacher should have a SAT math score of at least 700. The same criteria apply for students interested in a science teaching career. High school seniors who are interested in applying at the Academy and receiving a full-tuition scholarship should submit their applications by no later than December 15th.
